F.A.Q.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here in our Phineas Swann Bed and Breakfast FAQ are the answers to some of our most commonly asked questions. Have a question of your own? Contact us and we’ll be happy to help out!

Q. Which rooms or suites are pet-friendly?

A. Our six luxury suites are pet-friendly:

Q. What types of pets can stay at your inn?

A. The Phineas Swann is a dog-friendly inn.

Q. Is there a per night fee to have my dog stay at the inn with me?

A. No. The Phineas Swann does not charge a nightly extra fee for allowing your dog to stay at the inn with you. If you bring more than one dog, there is a flat fee of $25 per stay for each additional dog.

Q. Do dogs stay in the rooms with their owners, or do you have an on-site kennel?

A. We believe dogs are a part of our guests’ families, and as such, they stay in the rooms.  We do not have an on-site kennel. Our staff is very happy to take your dogs for walks while you’re gone for the day simply for a gratuity. You can make arrangements each day at breakfast.

Q. I’m allergic. Does that mean I can’t stay with you?

A. Not at all. We keep our Main House dog-free for guests like you. Our Red, Green and Blue Rooms have never had a dog in them. Even if you stay in our suites, you’d discover our deep-cleaning makes allergies no problem!

Q. What are your Room Rates?

A. Our range of room rates can be found on our Accommodations Rate Card – this information describes high and low season rates (a range of rates) and holiday periods, as well as information on check-in, cancellation, etc. For more information about our rates during specific time periods, use the Check Availability link in the navigation bar at the top of this page.

Q. How do I check availability?

A. To check availability for any of our rooms and suites, use the BOOK NOW link in the navigation bar at the top of this page, or simply give us a call at (802) 326-4306.

Q. How close are you to Jay Peak?

A. We’re just 6.5 miles (10km) from Jay Peak Resort.

Q. Do you offer discounted ski tickets/equipment rental/shuttle service?

A. Yes, yes and no. We have discounted ski tickets available for our guests to save them money on their stay. You can order them when you book online or over the phone. We offer equipment rental packages in cooperation with our town’s amazing ski shop, FirstTrax. We don’t provide a shuttle since the road to Jay Peak (Vermont 242) is regularly plowed and kept clear. Guests prefer to drive themselves so they can control when they get to the mountain and come back.

Q. What if I have special dietary needs?

A. We’ll always ask you this when you make your reservation but make sure to remind us. We offer variations on our amazing breakfasts for gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, lactose-intolerant and other needs.

Q. Do you have any specials or promotions?

A. You can always save money via our packages and promotions. Click the Packages & Deals link on our website and then select the right deal for the time of year you’re visiting.

Q. Do you offer Gift Certificates?

A. Yes. You can order gift certificates in any amount here.

Q. Who was Phineas Swann?

A.That’s a popular question. Phineas Swann was a founder of the town of Montgomery. His signature is on the document requesting a town charter from the then-governor of Vermont in 1780. Fun fact: He signed his name with one “n.” It was recorded both ways (spelling wasn’t a big deal in the 18thcentury). The B&B was named in honor of him when it was created in 1986.

Q. Do we have to share a bathroom?

A. This is one of the biggest myths of B&B’s that’s hard to break. Every guest at the Phineas Swann has their own private bathroom, all but one en suite.

Q. When is Check-In/Check-Out?

A. You can check into your room any time after 3 pm. Unlike other hotels and resorts in the area, your room will be ready at 3. No waiting until 8 or 9 at night for your room to be ready!  Check-Out is anytime before 11 am. Early check-in or late check-out is sometimes available for a slight charge – ask us about it when booking.

Q. I have special dietary needs/allergies. What about breakfast?

A. We have menu variations to accommodate those who need a gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, or other special diets. We do not cook with nuts or peanut oil to protect those with peanut allergies. Please let us know your special concerns when you book so we can take extra care.

Q. Do you have an outdoor hot tub?

A. Yes! We have the only year-round hot tub in the Jay Peak area.

Q. Do you have parking?

A. We offer free parking to all guests and on-street parking is also available.

Q. Do all your rooms have stairs?

A. Most of our rooms and suites are accessed by stairways. If you need a stair-free room, we recommend either our Honeymoon or Bulldog Suites.

Q. Do you have air conditioning?

A. Not only is it air conditioned (most Vermont inns are not), every room has its own thermostat to control the temperature in your specific room!

Q. Do you have high-speed internet, phones and TV in the room?

A. Yes, yes and yes.

Q. Can I use your kitchen or laundry?

A. Insurance regulations prevent guests from coming into our kitchen/laundry area. Our Carriage House Suites have mini-fridges and microwaves, and our River House Suites have full kitchens!

If you need laundry service, we can do a load of laundry for just $10 each.

Q. Do I need to pack a hairdryer, iron or ironing board?

A. Nope, nope and nope. We have all three in your room.

Q. Are children welcome?

A. Well-behaved children are always welcome here! Given the steep staircase, we do ask that children younger than six not stay in our Green, Red or Blue rooms in the Main House.

Q. Do you serve breakfast to the public?

A. No, not normally. But here’s an Easter egg:  We do offer breakfast to non-guests as long as they call ahead and make a reservation more than 24 hours in advance!

Q.How far are you from Burlington? Montreal? Boston? New York?

A. 1 hour. 90 minutes. 4 hours. 6 hours. Trust us. It’s worth the trip.
