Celebrating Vermont’s Unique Taste

It’s taken a day or two to recover from our first Farm2Table Dinner here at the Phineas, but after all the dishes were washed and the tables were broken down and taken out of the Gardens, Lynne and I got to sit back and enjoy the fact that we’d entertained 28 people and fed them a great meal.

Farm to Table Vermont at Phineas Swann Bed and Breakfast Inn near Jay PeakFarm2Table Dinners (or Farm-To-Table for you purists who don’t like my abbreviation) entail taking farm-fresh produce from local producers, picked just one or two days before, and making an elaborate meal to showcase the variety and freshness of local produce. A click on our menu at right from the first dinner shows the menu item and the local source for the main ingredients. As Montgomery’s only member of the Vermont Fresh Network, we want to give local growers and producers their due.

WThe Phineas Swann Bed and Breakfast Inn near Jay Peak is a member of the Vermont Fresh Networke serve our Farm2Table Dinners family-style, with a long table that encourages guests to interact, to share, to rediscover the lost art of conversation — in short, to have a memorable experience that extends far beyond just the food being served.

We’ll be hosting six of these dinners this summer, and the menus will change as different produce ripens and matures at local farms. There’s always the likelihood that a menu, once set, may change at the last minute as our visits to the farms and gardens exposes us to something new, or something we didn’t think would be ready.
That said, here’s the planned menu for our second Farm2Table Dinner, scheduled for July 5 at 7 p.m.:

  • Aperitif: Shelbourne Vineyard Wine Spritzer.
  • Appetizers: Vermont Cheese Sampler, Ham & Cream Cheese Rollups, Bacon-Cheddar Deviled Eggs & Artichoke Muffins.
  • Salad: BLT Salad
  • Main Course: Maple-Barbecued Pork, Honey-Roasted Baked Red Potatoes, Green Beans Almondine, Cole Slaw, Biscuits.
  • Dessert: Cream Cheese Fruit Pie.

We limit the seating to the event to 30 people, and after just opening reservations yesterday, we already have just 25 seats left. We want to ensure the best Farm to Table Vermont has to offer.
