Dispelling Some B&B MythsPosted by Darren Drevik on Mar 24, 2014 in Letters from Vermont | 0 comments
There are a lot of Bed and Breakfast myths, so I thought it would be a good time to brush some of them away. If you’ve ever considered staying at a B&B for the first time, but worried they were just for “old people” or would be stuffy, stale or worse, read on and learn how modern B&Bs are a great value for young and young at heart travelers
B&Bs are cheap and run-down – Actually, with most modern bed and breakfasts the opposite is true. Most are very up-to-date and luxurious, with modern amenities and decor. All of our rooms and suites have WiFi, modern in-room flat-screen TVs, DVD players. Our suites also have gas-log fireplaces.
Rooms in B&Bs are hot (or cold), stuffy and filled with frilly decor – All of our rooms have their own climate controls, including heat and air conditioning, high thread-count sheets, and modern, tasteful decor. You won’t find any doilies at the Phineas Swann!
Breakfast is family-style or nothing but a simple continental fare, and you have to eat with people you don’t like – At the Phineas, you get to enjoy two sideboards filled with fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, juices, home-baked muffins and other goodies. Then you are served a full hot breakfast, with gourmet items such as blackberry-stuffed French toast, banana pancakes, eggs Benedict, apple or strawberry waffles or omelets to order. And if you want to sit we other guests and chat, you can. Or, if you’d prefer, a private breakfast with just your sweetheart — that’s fine too!
Bathrooms are shared – Every one of our rooms and suites has it’s own private bathroom, and all but one have baths on-suite. All but two have jetted tubs for an even more luxurious experience.
Breakfasts are fattening and unhealthy – We pride ourselves on using natural, locally-sourced ingredients in our breakfasts, and provide healthy alternative including egg-white omelets, yogurts, granola and fresh fruits.
I have special diet needs a B&B can’t handle – We regularly provide breakfasts for vegans, vegetarians, those with gluten, nut or other food allergies. Whatever your special needs, you may be surprised to know we have a special recipe that will amaze you.
B&Bs have too many rules – While we do have policies that ensure at all guests have a great stay, you won’t find your room filled with “DON’T” signs when you stay at the Phineas.
There’s nothing to do at a B&B, they’re boring – If you find skiing, hiking, biking, relaxing in a hot tub or beside a gurgling river, snowshoeing, dogsledding, snowmobiling, shopping or sightseeing boring, you may be right. But we think you’ll find plenty of great activities in and around the Phineas Swann.
If you’re one of our past guests, you know that most of the stereotypes about B&Bs don’t apply, especially as it relates to the Phineas. If you’re considering your first visit, we encourage you to give us a call and let us convince you that compared to a sterile hotel or motel, or a noisy inn or lodge, our bed and breakfast will make your vacation extra special.
